The Dark Horse Project Bio

5/9/08

Oh dear, our sincere apologies, we have had web difficulties, and have been primarily using myspace to keep ya'll current w/ shows and happenings....back in business, feels ooo so good.

Our new record is done and now mixed, it looks to be about 9 songs, short and sweet .As soon as it's mastered,we will have it for you. In other news, our beloved drummer Dan is moving on from our band, to spend more time w/family. We value all that he has contributed for the last two years. It has been a fun process auditioning new drummers for us...Also, all the shows that are posted, we are of course playing, and we may have found a new drummer already, so booking is still a'rolling.

In other news, radio 88.9 voted us 'best band name'....( enough said) video-artist Dave Vescio who has done videos for many artists incuding Beck, came across our music video on you-tube for the song 'Hollow'. He contacted us, and had some really sweet things to say about our video, and the good old days of what videos used to be. We welcome a new member to our band...LORA ! keyboardist, vocalist, sleighbellist extraordinaire! Lora is not only gorgeous, but extremely talented, she is the cherry on our circus peanut indeed.

Hi pals...

Recording in louisianna was just magical, the album will be 11 or 12 songs.I think as a band we are all excited in terms of what this new year will bring. We will be sending it off to some european labels to see what may come of that.In town, we play at the Cactus on Jan 12th W/THE DANGER....Amazing band*

11/21/07

Turkey???? hell yes!

Dark meat??? hell yes!

We are embarking on recording our new record..title suggestions welcome. We are leaving for new orleans in dec, and will be done recording by Christmas.

Hello one and all,...My lord, we spend so much time on our My Space site that we forget to visit our trusty home page...Have we been active & playing??? Hell yes, it's just that most of our shows get posted on "the space" as opposed to here.

Feeling grateful that a new stream of songs are flowing in, we plan on recording a new album soon, and since it's not just me anymore, and that in fact a band does exist, I forsee the coming out of this album being a bit more, shall we say, 'expediant' than the last one.

The other day, I 'you-tubed' Xanadu, one of my favorite movies as a young lass..Let me say, it does not stand the test of time .One minute I'm day-dreaming of how inspiring that movie was to me, when all I had to worry about in life was "do my hair clips match?", and the next minute,I'm watching Fee Waybill of "TheTubes" grind on a woman's thigh,( that I swear to god is a dead ringer for one of the solid gold dancers). Which Gibb brother was that? Do yourself a favor....You Tube ,XANADU..

3/18/07

Hi kids...Just checking in..Yes, of course I still come to this site despite the fact that Myspace exists. Whats new? Well, we are in the midst of booking some East Coast tour dates, happy to be going back there after quite awhile.

Some of you may have heard us on the t.v show "Dirt" more than once, no coincidence. We believe that at this point, we should just score the damn show. My lyrics would go something like..."dirt,dirt,dirt,dirt,dirt,dirt,dirt,dirt"!!!!(But I would sing it like the guy from Bush).Or I would sing it like George Bush.Or better yet,I would sing it to George Bush.

Hello people..Yes ,those of you who watched the new 'courtney cox' drama "Dirt" may have heard our song 'Danger' this evening. It played a total of two whole minutes...not bad for the life of a snippet. We here at camp Dark Horse were quite amused by the nearly 'soft core' antics of the t.v show...In the words of Marc Hutner..."interesting".

please feel free to sign up on our mailing list through the contact link, we love to hear from you...

12/13/06

Well hello everyone..Life is good on our end,and without going into it,please make sure that your smoke detectors have batteries in them as we go into the holiday season.

We are verry happy to say that we are getting national college airplay right now,and doing well in some cities. You can help ,by linking to our myspace page, and e-mailing the d.j's at several stations(view-able links found on our current blog)

So we get in the van on saturday,on our merry way to Chicago for a gig at "Cal's"...Its raining buckets, it's cold...About 1/2 hour into the ride, we ( I ) decide that our wiper blades need to be replaced. They were about as effective and useful as our current president.

We pull over, and buy the "universal pair" of blades....Is standing in freezing rain ,in the dark for over 45 minutes universal too? They should specify on the box, that with every purchase, you get to meet a bunch of strangers, because you will be so BAFFLED that other nearby humans will feel compelled to come over and help...so new friends are included in this purchase too, cool.Only i enjoy my friends the most, when we're warm..*

Ok, giving up on the new pair, we resume, and attempt to put the old pair back on...only one of the 476 people that was trying to help us, broke one of them.We put one old, useless wiper on the driver side, and than we rubber band a glove, to the metal nub of the passenger side...off we go.Thank god that was taken care of.. . We arrive at Cal's ..time to get warm, sit by the fire, and have Wilford Brimly greet us,while promptly pouring us some hot porridge right?....No.

Great crowd...GREAT ENERGY..We start playing, people are enjoying themselves, and some even going "ape shit"..When all of the sudden, like a divine sign from you know who, I get an electrical current that pierces my lips.'We can fix this' I think..But after the 4th time of getting shocked, i start wondering if theres any mental benefits ...( i was in a pretty darn good mood the next day) All kidding aside, after we fixed the current (literal current) problem,We had a great chi-town show...Shouts out to Matt,Sarah,Brett,Nicole, and Skid ( from the ladies and gentlemen) who supplied us with karate kicks during our whole set...Things can turn around if your patient.."Cal's" really does rule, and we will be back .

We just found out that our song DANGER will be used on the new Courtney Cox t.v show "dirt"...Episode details to follow soon.

9/14/06

Hello hello friends...Wow, thank you so much for the outstanding response last night..For those of you not in chicago,we played at Martyr's and it was a delight..All the bands we played w/ were great especially Slingerland Ride.

Everytime I wear my double knit polyester suit, I am reminded of why i dont wear it that often..Give me a Buster Poindexter on this one ,and say it with me.."hot hot hot"!!!!! God bless David Johannson. We are writing many new songs for us and you, that being said, make sure you scroll down link to our label and pick up our album...we are so pleased with it.

The highlight of my day was hugging a complete stranger in walgreens today......seriously.

Although our release with Dalloway records is not schedule until October ,we have pre-release, limited edition copies available right now, through Dalloway's website. http://www.Dallowayrecords.com/ You will see the purchase info on their home-page, and delivery is prompt.

Lots of shows coming up on our roster..Looking forward to seeing you at one.

07/24/06

Well hello there...gosh it's been a bit,but alas, our site will now be updated on a pretty regular basis seeing as I now have internet, and no longer need to depend on which way the wind blows to get a signal .Hope you are all surviving the summer heat with lots of frosty's and slip'n'slides. On the days when it was 100 degrees,I think I re-created the opening scene from Apocolypse Now in my living room, seeing as I had no A.C,.Martin sheen would have been proud that I took it a step further than he did* .

Life is good,Our record label http://www.dallowayrecords.com/ will be pressing our record shortly, and will have c.d's available through their site.Of course,we will keep you in the loop.I would like to thank all our appreciators for being patient in terms of getting their hands on our music. We look forward to playing in Minneapolis on the 29th, and locally on Aug.5th. If you would like to link to our my space site, you may do so on the Media page.We sure love you!!!

OK, we just are fresh off the road from North Carolina ...gone 61 hours, drove 30.Holy hell batman! We played a magical show at "the garage" in winston, salem and thanks to cathy there for being so kind. Also thanks to Mitch easter & Shalini for playing a great show & being so darn nice....

The drive was amazing, we witnessed an enormous double rainbow through the blue ridge mountains that would have given john denver tingly feelings.

Our label gals @ Dalloway records,Christina&Eve were lovely and accomodating,we set a release date sometime in August hopefully ,but will most likely have the c.d available VERY soon through this site so you can buy it on-line.Thanks for the patience people,I receive all your e-mails wondering about how you can own it, and all i can say is that now that our deal is signed and things are moving, we will make it a priority to have it here soon.

So one last thing about the drive,I recomend making your OWN mad libs on the road...maybe you too can create something that sounds like "The nun jumped over the fence, and raw-dicked the mail man in front of the devil " ....It doesnt get any better. **

Hey there friends..Greetings from The land of The Dark Horse.Good news ; two new shows booked in April .One at 'Shank Hall' in Milwaukee & one in Racine at 'Mcauliffes pub'. We have been practicing relentlessly, having fun, and perhaps drinking a bit too much sugar free Red Bull( I think they should sponser us). Drummer Dan has been broken in ,and is a fine ,fine specimen of a musician....(there are new band pic's in our gallery if you want to check out the percussive god)..

Ous bassist Josh is an outstanding screen printer/ designer. We have been very fortunate lately to have had some excellent looking posters, keep an eye out milwaukeeans. To see more of his work, go to Gigposters.com...great stuff.

Spring has sprung....I am going to start off the new season by seeing "bobby vinton" tomorrow night at the local casino....Life can be sweet huh?

1/24/06

thanks so very much to everyone for coming to our fabulous gig at Onopa Brewery last fri. eve. For a fucking blizzard, the turnout was amazing !We would like to thank Dan especially for hittin' those skins for us on such short notice as well ..what a guy, what a guy.We lok forward to playing The Mad Planet on feb. 4th ,feeling good about getting our feet wet again after kind of re-couping from a member change(the best part of being a musician indeed)Its so great to feel the love, and get e-mails from people that are keeping up w/ us,wondering whn the next gigs are, etc...Little things like that really make a difference.Oh yes, thanks to "crimes of paris" & "hoss "as well, two solid bands.

On a personal note, if anyone spots a woman running down at the lakefront, wearing a white fuzzy hat, and punching the air tribute ala "rocky" around 9:00 a.m,thats me...give a honk would ya?

12/13/05

Well hey hey hey kids....been awhile.Just got a lap-top & the codes to update the site so here we are again. Looking forward to a january 20th show at Onopa brewery on center street ( I beleive we go on 1st) so hopefully we will see you there. I do have to say on a side note, that i'm already sick of winter, nothing like a 2 degree breeze blowing up your pantleg whilst shaking massive amounts of radio active salt off your boots ya know??? jesus. Hey check out onmilwaukee.com's article on our nutty band, just click on "music" and it will be easy to locate*

10/24/05

Well well well... we are happy to say that there is a potential new 'label home' for the dark horse project , so thats why there is a bit of a delay in terms of purchasing our new c.d on line .You can however get it at our shows when we play.Make sure you check out the dark horse project on 'my space' and we look forward to continuing to play full force right after the holly-days.Local folks, go to 'atomic records'...You might just find a special treat in "the lovelies" section.wink wink.*

8/29/05

Hi there. Life is good, ...fans/friends will be happy to know that the Dark Horse Project will have c.d's available in two weeks, hot off the pressing plant. We have some gigs coming up in October that we are excited about , and more details will be posted as we book in.C.D's will be available on-line or at our performances.Josh, kristy and I look forward to playing for you.

7/31/05

Wow....A huge thanks to everyone that came out to our show last night w/ 'the woggles' & 'holly go lightly '.We couldnt have prayed for a better vibe, or a more beautiful evening..I must say that the sound system there was fantastic as well.Josh(the bassist) was excellent, and it made my heart swell to have all our hard practicing come to fruition.(If you call 'hard' chainsmoking, and lounging on red carpet in my basement drinking diet cokes.*) We look forward to many shows in the future & our drummer will be here in less than a month.I got to sport my new one piece elvis jumpsuit, and life is good.

6/22/05

Just checking in, what else is new. I am thrilled to announce that my new bassist and i will be playing our first show together in july...please go to the shows page for further details. We have been practicing hard so our drummer's arrival in August will be a smooth transition. I look forward to getting a couple local shows under our belt, and I am hoping to plan a series of out of town shows in sept/ oct.It sure would be great to get back to nashville & austin again.Looking forward to seeing y'all at the gig on the 30th of July!

6/11/05

Hello again.Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the wonderful people that came out to my performace last night.I would like to send a special thanks to the chicago crew, who got jacked up mapquest directions and only saw the last two songs...total bummer,( i'll catch you next time brian*) I must say, shank hall has the best sound in the city hands down...(Paul, you the man.So refreshing to have someone mix vocals properly).Gosh, in the words of Donna Fargo,' I'm the happiest girl in the whole U.S.A'...

PRETTY MUCH THE BEST NIGHT EVER*

06/07/05

Yes,now you cant get rid of me since i figured out how to' log on' and post a bunch of sense-less shit.. just taking a quick break from writing I guess.Saw a great lana turner movie last night , jesus, they shaved that womans eyebrows & penciled them back on like 7 inches higher ...I fucking love that stuff.I just pulled an old 'ampeg' amp of mine out that i will be playing on the 10th, it sounds amazing..the tremelo is gorgeous, unlike the 'pedal tremelos' you can buy that sound similar to a small farm animal drowning ...

The other day my friend took me to a great store intown called"Gearheads" ..it's on 41st and National , and they have a fantastic selection of old/ obscure amps..I did not want to leave. Adjacent to the music store is a old movie/ memorobilia store that's really cool as well, I couldnt believe that i had never been there before. But if you are in the market for some cool & obscure gear for your guitar (or any instrument for that matter) go there & talk to a gentleman named Ben ...he is nice, and nice is extremely under-rated in my opinion. It's a family business & you just cant beat that.

6/3/05

Hey friends, let me say again, how cool it's been to hear from so many of you.Good times, good times. Ah yes, I enjoy sitting in front of my computer, late at night rambling endlessley into the cyber- stratosphere .Today was cool,I have begun practicing w/ a certain bass player in town & Its been much fun.I think we are both warped enough to actually make a 'go' of it .Other than that, I am busy preparing for a solo show at SHANK HALL on the 10th of june. Its been really nice to be in a position where I am able to find/ audition people to play out (full band). Dont get me wrong, I dig solo shows, and the intimacy you get from them, but playing out "The Dark Horse " record full band is great as well.I have truly enjoyed the presence of other people playing w/ myself again.I 've never recorded a full record & than put a band together, but my friends & i say that if you do the exact opposite, of what you have usually done, you will get great results. So far it has been true.Being able to 'start over' as it were, rebuilding something so different from where I came from is un-explainabley cool. I cant wait till my drummer kristy gets here.
